Speech & Language Therapy

Communication is the foundation for all aspects of our students educational, emotional and social development.  Our Speech & Language Therapy Team work closely with the education and residential staff to ensure that students communication skills are supported and encouraged throughout their day.  We have a wide range of communication aids and support including Makaton signing, communication books and charts through to high tech communication aids some of which can be operated by eye movement only.

Hydrotherapy & Physiotherapy

Most of us are lucky enough to move whenever we want.  Our students often experience difficulty with even the simplest of movements.  The Physio team at Victoria School strive to explore opportunities for both mobility and movement with the aim of maximising independence.  Whether it be in a group session, an individual session or on a trampoline we work to improve postural positioning, functional skills and active movements.  It can be hard work for all but with the help of others such as wheelchair services, orthotics department and a variety of other professionals we all aim to achieve our goals.  What is extra special is that we have fun and laughter all the way.

Occupational Therapy

From the moment you wake, you have a unique routine of doing things – get out of bed, go to the toilet, shower, choose your clothes, get dressed, choose what you want for breakfast.  This sequence of tasks are normally undertaken with minimal thought processing.  The ability to develop your own routine and undertake these tasks independently is something we all take for granted.  For our students these daily living skills require a lot of effort, both physically and cognitively.

We work closely with the students and those who support them – parents, carers and teachers to achieve this, enabling the individual to reach their maximum potential and achieve their goals through supported learning and providing aids and equipment.  This includes daily living skills, as described above, and school based skills such as accessing a computer, handwriting, sensory programmes...
